Prayer

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” ~Luke 11:1, 9-13
What a profound question! The disciples simply wanted to be able to speak with God in a worthy manner. Jesus did not respond with words that intimidated them. But said…
“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

In the earlier verses He gives them a model prayer that glorifies or exalts His name and simplifies our daily petitions or needs of others and ours. He is a good God (all the time) that loves us and wants to be involved intimately in our lives. He did something no one else could and paid a price we could not pay in laying down His life for us, so that we could enter into His throne daily in boldness! “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”~Hebrews 4:14-16
