Leadership

We live in a world that strives to control their destiny, obtaining great wealth and along the way proclaiming there is no God! Yet even beneath all the great accomplishments there exist a deep current of despair. As Christians we have a great privilege to lead by example emulating Christ. I’m reminded of Hillsong’s infamous words, “Break my heart for what breaks yours, everything I am for your Kingdom’s cause as I walk from earth into eternity…” Often times as Christians we quickly forget the heart of God. We should be humbled and broken so that we are able to see the magnitude of human pain and desire to reach out and share God’s love. There is a great resistance to trusting the heart of God that it becomes nearly impossible to the human eye to see past all life’s heartaches. Sharing Gods love and leading by example will draw people closer to the heart of God that offer’s consolation and hope.

Although Jesus was the ultimate example of how to lead, the apostle Paul followed His example and became known as the transparent leader. In other words Paul “wore his heart on his sleeve.” Paul nurtured the relationships with sheer honesty and instilled trust in those he led. I believe our human nature desires to be treated with respect and compassion especially from Christians who are to be the greatest example of Christ. It is imperative to our testimony to others that we begin with building trust with people. Scripture lays out foundational truths to do good to others. Proverbs 19:1 speaks wisdom of such goodness by the importance of exhibiting integrity. “Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.” –Proverbs 19:1. Possessing integrity speaks volumes, which in turn helps build trust.

A spirit of meekness will nurture trust and is a biblical concept in that meekness implies not fearfulness but strength under control. Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV)
